KOTA KINABALU: Most government departments and agencies are already equipped with their own computer(s) database disaster recovery system.
Speaking to reporters after launching the HP Eco Disaster Recovery Centre here yesterday, Resource Development and Information Technology Minister, Datuk Dr Yee Moh Chai said so far the recovery system incorporated by the government was working well.
“However, when it comes to information technology, you will always need to improve from time to time,” he added.
Stressing the importance of backing up one’s computer database in his speech earlier, Dr Yee said that for large corporations, losing valuable data would be disastrous to their operations.
He added that data(s) lost may mean losses in terms of efficiency and monetary for some companies.
“Data is very valuable, which is why we need to regularly back them up,” he said.
Unfortunately, many companies in Sabah did not have their own backup system in place.
He, meanwhile, commended Sri Komputer for establishing the centre, which is the first of its kind in Sabah.
The center allows companies that do not want to spend too much on having their own backup system in place, through its rental packages.
“With the Sabah Development Corridor (SDC), the ICT (Information Communication Technology) industry is set to expand. The introduction of such a technical service is important and timely,” he said.
Also present at the event were Sri Komputer chief executive officer, Hiew Chee Wah and country business manager for HP Works, Chung Chee Cheong.
